Hi lrk, you may have heard of a little thing called "Lake Michigan." :-) Via the other Great Lakes, and the Saint Lawrence Seaway, it is connected to the Atlantic ocean. And via a series of canals, it also connects to major inland waterways such as the Mississippi river (and thus of course on to the Gulf of Mexico).

Unfortunately, that cold you mysteriously acquired robbed you of three days with the kids. But normal, as you say, is something in itself - arguably a successful result considering the starting point.
